Carolin Saan is a production designer, working across the mediums of film and television. Through her training in art history she serves to bring texture and meaning to visual storytelling. Playing with different tangible materials, patterns and palettes, her work crosses bridges between different worlds and imaginations. Her knowledge of set construction, colours and proportions provide a solid practical base for any project.

 

Born in Tallinn, Estonia, Carolin’s interest in the visual world was sparked at a young age in her drama and art classes. After studying Film and Visual Culture & History of Art in the University of Aberdeen, Scotland, where her short film “Where do children play?” won the Lumiere Film prize in 2015, she worked on various productions in Paris and Melbourne. She served as an Art Director in the Australian psychological horror feature film “Plague” that was the most popular film of its genre on iTunes after its debut.

 

She has worked for several international commercial clients such as Sony International, Vodafone, and Mercedes etc. One of her national print projects called “Kebabulind” was awarded the Golden Egg Prize of Design in 2016. Her last short film was a cinematic poem “Enchanted”, written and directed by Maria Avdjushko, released in fall 2017. 

 

Her most recent work as Production Designer includes a feature film Firelily, which is Carolin's second collaboration with director Maria Avdjushko. The film was released in cinemas in May 2018.

Her most recent work as Production Designer was Katie Found's first feature film "My First Summer". Production stage finished in Melbourne in March 2019, and the the film is now in post production.
